Tonsillectomy
Posted by High Priestess Kang as Resources, Tonsillectomy
Well…it’s been well over a month since those pesky tonsils were disposed of and shipped off to Sweden to live with Magnus. The fever seems to be abating. I still have some days where it spikes to an uncomfortable level…but those days do seem to be fewer and farther between.
One of the things I have noticed, since coming out of the drunken, medicine stupor, is my level of energy. I used to be entirely wiped out at the end of the day. Now I find myself fluffy tailed and ready for more fun once I get home from work. This is all so strange. I feel almost as good as I did a year ago when the yuck took hold.
The weight loss is being maintained. Between the rampant tummy upset from the summer and the tonsillectomy, I have lost 28 pounds. Thank G-d. Yours truly did need to shed a few pounds.
So…all in all…I say it was the smartest decision I have made in years.
For those of you coming by KangWorld to research the tonsillectomy (I have seen a significant increase lately), please be sure to check out the page on Adult Tonsillectomy. I tried to compartmentalize the entire process from diagnosis to recovery.
Best of luck to all who go through it. It’s not fun. However, a month later, you will be feeling like a million dollars.

=D I’m so glad. Kind of funny all the horrible stuff they were scaring you with and it turned out to be tonsillitis. That it took so long to pinpoint too… wow.
No kidding! Grrrrrrrr!!!!
It is nice to feel better again. I can manage the unyielding desire to hurk. I could not cope with the lack of energy though.
For what it’s worth, I’m still having some problems with speech. I suppose I need to make an edit or two. The word, “you” still sounds really strange. It still sounds like a cartoon saying it.
I was a chronic tonsillitis sufferer when I was a teen, but at that time the medical community frowned upon yanking them, which meant I was almost constantly on antibiotics in my teen years. I’ve only had one relapse as an adult, a year ago November - an experience I don’t ever wish to repeat. If it ever happens again I’m going to get them removed. I could stand to lose a few pounds anyway.
It’s actually not the worst thing. I can barely recall the pain.
Oooh…and painkillers and weight loss? What more could a girl want? Really???
As far as having more energy, you probably had obstructive sleep apnea caused when your tonsils blocked your air passage when you were sleeping keeping you from getting enough oxygen. Lack of oxygen means lack of energy and, unfortunately it can end your life very prematurely. Also, lack of oxygen can also slow your metabolism so maybe this is also why you have lost so much weight.
Errmmm…perhaps sleep apenea, but I think you have missed the context as it related to my actual condition which began with a FUO (fever of unkown origin) in December of 2005 which would indicate an infection as the root cause.
Furthermore, I thought it was the over-active metabolism that would cause weight loss. You’re saying that a slow metabolism causes weight loss.
Please clarify.
